Glossary

1.13YOU’VE COMPLETED 2 STEPS IN WEEK 1

Glossary

The vocational education and training sector is full of specialised terminology, but now we have to grapple with all the specialised terms used for talking about blended learning in the apprenticeship setting. So we start as we mean to go on, and together all members of the course team and participants are going to develop a collective, shared glossary of terms.

There are digital tools to help with this. For our online glossary we’ve chosen to use a version of MediaWiki, the opensource software that is used by Wikipedia and many others.

Look at the ‘Online Glossary’ crib sheet, which you can download below. This explains how they work and gives you a link to the one in Moodle, as well as one or two others. It also gives two short examples of how they are used for different subject areas in the VET sector.

We have made the online glossary for this course as simple to use as possible. All we want you to do for now is to view the Course Glossaryand browse through the terms we’ve collected so far.

When you’ve linked through, if you create a favourite/bookmark to the glossary (in your browser there should be a ‘favourite/bookmarks’ tab where you can ‘add to favourite’/‘bookmark this page’), you can return to it at any time to check a term, or to add one.

Once you have familiarised yourself with the glossary, we have provided step-by-step instructions for how you can begin to expand existing entries and add your own.
