Keeping connected: choosing the best tool
In this step, you will examine what to consider when deciding which digital tools to introduce to communicate with your apprentices.
There are many digital tools which can be used to keep apprentices connected across the whole apprentice journey. In the last video, Sophie at WhiteHat explained that they have switched to using forms of communication which work for the apprentice by using the digital tools that they are familiar with.
This is just one area of consideration. There are many factors to consider when deciding which is the most appropriate tool to use. They include:
- capabilities
- cost
- ease of use/familiarity
- accessibility and inclusivity
- compatibility
- credibility.
You can find a helpful document in the Downloads section containing questions to ask yourself or others when introducing a new digital tool.
Have a go:
Choose a digital tool (that was perhaps added to the wordcloud) that you haven’t used before and add it to your course journal. Write a list of its benefits and drawbacks and describe a scenario where you might use it with your apprentices. Add your notes to this Padlet.
Have your say:
Describe your experience of using Padlet for this course – is it something you might be able to use with your colleagues or apprentices?
Share and discuss your thoughts with other learners in the Comments.
