The apprentice voice

This video focuses on the apprentices’ stories from their workplace environments, from accountancy to media and fashion.

The apprentices’ social world has been digital for some time, but now they’re also immersed in a workplace where digital is everywhere – no industry is exempt. There are similarities in what software may be useful. For example, in the video, both Louis and Jessica use Excel spreadsheets for their very different types of work.

Have a go:

Your apprentices will have similar experiences to those in the video as they move into work. In your industry, what other digital skill or tool will your apprentices need that will help them pass, and also help their work? How does your apprenticeship or training programme support them in this?

Share your ideas with other participants by adding to this Padlet. A guide on how to use Padlet is provided in the Download section, but you can simply double-click on the wall or select the + button in the bottom right corner to add your thoughts. When you record your ideas:

  1. Give your comment a title that relates to your industry or topic.
  2. If you like, click on one of the icons to attach a link to an image, short video or website that illustrates your idea.
  3. Type in your idea (up to a maximum of 40 words).
  4. Browse the other ideas and note the interesting ideas and links in your course journal.

Have your say:

Discuss some of the useful ideas on the Padlet in the Comments. It may be helpful to consider how you would adapt someone else’s idea for your own industry.
